Web Critique Assessment
Website – www.youtube.com

Simplicity :
I found that the youtube website has a very simple layout. It doesn’t have any unnecessary advertisements or pointless paragraphs of text. It is easy to find exactly what you are looking because of the size of the font. It also shows you some of the popular videos that are being viewed. There are no fancy background pictures and the colour of the font and the background are very basic.
Typography:
There is nothing special about the typography of this website but I think that’s one of the reason why this is a very good website. The user is not being distracted by bright colourful text and big headings jumping out of the screen. The font style is very simple, The links are coloured blue and underlined, and the description of the videos are in a simple black under the title of the videos.
White-Space :
There is alot of white space on the youtube website. The space between each video is big enough to stop the page from looking squashed together. The main menu bar at top of the page is easily visible because there is a big gap between the menu and the next piece of text underneath it. The column on the right hand side of the page is small so it also doesn’t take up much space.
Layout :
The layout of this website is great. Again, everything is so simply layed out that it would be very unlikely that you would find it difficult to find what you are looking for. The menu is right at the top of the page and really stands out from the rest of the page. All of the videos are lined up down the left hand side of the page and there is a column on the right hand side of the page. The search bar is also easily visible at the top of the page.
Colour :
The colour of the website is very basic. The background is white and the only other main colours are blue and red. Even though there are not many colours, the website does look great because of it’s simplicity. Colours are only used when needed e.g. links are blue, text is black.

This week we used photoshop again. This time we had to make our own pictures using different layers. I decided to make a picture of a good Liam Neeson because he is a legend. I also made a picture of an evil Robert DeNiro and an evil Al Pacino.

Today we went into more detail about what visual development is. We explored the creative use of line, point and shape in visual language. In the lab, we used these methods to help draw an object that we had to bring to class with us and we used the blind contour method to draw our hands.

]We were introduced to the visual language module and what we would be doing through out the semester.
Today we wrote a short paragraph about ourselves and we drew three thumbnails of three things that interest us. After that we drew a larger image of one of the thumbnail which interested us most.
